ORA Historic & Classic Rifle Section - Spring
Meeting 2010 15th May at Otmoor
Comments on the Meeting from John Winter:-
The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny Spring day. There was a very large entry of 42 of which 33 shot in the match, which ensured a very good profit. Thanks to the efforts of Nic Washington as RCO everyone was accommodated on the firing point. There were lots of newcomers , all from ORA Clubs, and a special mention must be made of the Harwell Club who sent ten members. The shooting was of a very good standard and many vintage rifles were seen on the firing point. It is really great to see so many of these old rifles appearing and being well looked after. It is our duty to make sure these historical rifles continue to be seen and appreciated.
Peter Bysshe shot a superb 100 with his Moisin Nagent Sniper to go with his 97 in the Service Rifle Class. It was calculated that around 2500 rounds were fired during the day. If I have to have a little moan it is the mass exodus that occurs at 3.30pm leaving a gallant few to clear up the Range and put the target frames away. Why is it always the same few. I am convinced our members firmly believe that the Range is set up by the Shooting Fairies and all I do is wave a magic wand!
Once again my very grateful thanks to Nic Washington for his marathon effort as RCO and simply to say what a grand job he did.

The ORA Historic & Classic Rifle Autumn Meeting 2009,
26th September at 10.00am at Otmoor
The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny
Autumn day. There was a very good entry of 32 with 23 shooting in the match, which ensured that we made a profit of
about £50 on the day. We still have to shoot into the Hythe Frames which makes more work setting up and also increases
the safety angle. My thanks to the usual few who helped me to set up and take down targets. It is surprising that
these always seem to be the same people !
It was a first for several members and they certainly
enjoyed the experience. There were some excellent scores recorded and lots of different rifles on view.
The Lee Enfield No 4 still proves what a very good rifle it was, a clear favourite of many present.
My grateful thanks to Terry Woodley for sharing the
RCO duties with me and thus allowing me to shoot.

The ORA Historic & Classic Rifle Section Spring Meeting 2009, 23rd May at Otmoor
The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny and warm day. There was a very poor entry of 20 of which 16
shot in the match, which ensured a loss of about £155. However there was time for plenty of shooting.
The standard was not quite as high as expected due to a rather brisk wind , except Chris Woods who
equalled his own County record in BP Rifle Class. Also Alex Hamilton with a very good 99 in the Veteran Rimfire Class.
John Winter, Chairman FB Committee
Thanks to Nic Washington for sharing RCO duties and those gallant few who helped set up and clear away the range.
Clearly these meetings are now in grave doubt of continuing. Most Counties would give anything for a FB range on
their doorstep but we simply don't want to know.

The ORA Historic & Classic Rifle Section Autumn Meeting 2008, 17th May at Otmoor
The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny Autumn day.
There was a very poor entry of 17 with 15 shooting in the match, which ensured that we lost about £100 on the day.
We had to shoot under the new rules of targets on the Hythe Frames. This seemed to work reasonably well but was slower
and meant much more work setting up the range and taking down afterwards. There were the usual few left at the end
of the day to take down all the targets, the rest having decamped early.
There were some very good scores and there was a lot of
time to shoot extra targets due to the total lack of entries.
This event is clearly in danger of being cancelled in future. This would be a dreadful shame and a loss of yet another
shooting event. My grateful thanks to Nic Washington for sharing the RCO duties with me.
