The ORA Historic  & Classic Rifle Section Autumn  Meeting 2008, 17th May at Otmoor

The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny Autumn day. There was a very poor entry of 17 with 15 shooting in the match, which ensured that we lost about Ł100 on the day. We had to shoot under the new rules of targets on the Hythe Frames. This seemed to work reasonably well but was slower and meant much more work setting up the range and taking down afterwards. There were the usual few left at the end of the day to take down all the targets, the rest having decamped early.

There were some very good scores and there was a lot of time to shoot extra targets due to the total lack of entries. This event is clearly in danger of being cancelled in future. This would be a dreadful shame and a loss of yet another shooting event. My grateful thanks to Nic Washington for sharing the RCO duties with me.

The Historic and Classic Rifle Spring Meeting, 17th May  2008 at Otmoor

The match was shot at Otmoor on a cloudy but dry day.  There was a very good entry of 26, 24 of which shot in the match, which ensured that we paid our way on the day. However there was time for plenty of shooting. The standard was very high, with two 99’s being shot. It was really great to see so many different Historic & Classic rifles on view. The oldest being Hugh Hinde’s Three Band Enfield, over 150 years old. The “poshest” probably being Andy Jeff’s Lee Enfield No.4 (T) Sniper Set with all it’s accoutrements.

We welcomed our ORA members from Warwickshire making their first visit to Otmoor.

A big thank you to Nic Washington, Mick Beesley, Dave Thornton and Alan Cassell for helping set up the range. Grateful thanks to Nic Washington and Jeremy Hooper who shared the RCO duties with me. Also to those few who remained to clear up afterwards.

I was very pleased with the turnout and it was a very successful day all round. A very big thank you to the Range Warden for being so very helpful.

John Winter, C.R.O.

The Historic and Classic Rifle Autumn Meeting, 22nd September  2007 at Otmoor

The match was shot at Otmoor on a lovely sunny autumn day. There was a rather poor turnout of 20 with 17 members shooting in the various classes.

The scores were excellent throughout the day, with many rifles being well over 100 years old. Thanks to Jason Buckingham who supplied the tent and to Nic Washington who helped me with the RCO duties.

Well done to Peter Bysshe who scored 100 in the Over 100 year Service Rifle Class and to Alex Hamilton with a 99 in the Veteran Rimfire Class , plus Peter Bysshe again with a 99 in the Service Rifle Class.

The “Volunteer Cup ” was keenly contested by four members shooting BP / ML Rifles, just won by Nick Washington with 91 over Hugh Hinde shooting an original Volunteer Rifle , who got himself a 10% bonus.

I was very disappointed with the turn out considering the great efforts the NRA and ORA put in to get shooting back at Otmoor.

The overall standard in all Classes has improved immensely over the last few years.
